Hey Ladies! I wanted to take a few minutes to talk about some of the products I use on my body, why I choose to use them, and how they affect the body.
Your skin is the largest organ of the body, with a total area of about 20 square feet. The skin protects us from microbes and the elements, helps regulate body temperature, and permits the sensations of touch, heat, and cold. And using products full of chemicals can affect our hormones, give us migraines, and totally throw off our whole system. We assume the products we use are safe, but, if you do some research- they are not and could be the cause of some underlying symptoms. So, if you’re noticing your skin having issues in any of these areas I would highly suggest taking a look at the products you’re using, especially your deodorant.
Flaking, redness, rashes, swelling, scaling and roughness.
They can be accompanied by sensations of itching, burning, tightness and prickling.
When i dove into this topic and researched my deodorant I was ready to quit right away. However, it was difficult to find the right product until I found primally pure Deodorant with Blue Tansy essential oil. You will sweat, but as you read you will learn that you are supposed to sweat. Sweating is our body’s natural way of detoxing. But… I don’t smell with this deodorant and it’s all thanks to the blue tansy!
That’s right: sweating is totally, completely, 100% natural. It’s our bodies’ way of expelling toxins and regulating temperature. Without sweat, just imagine what a hot cesspool of toxins our bodies would be!
Additionally, sweat itself doesn’t actually smell: it’s just a combination of water and salt. What does produce that tangy body odor is when sweat comes into contact with the bacteria that lives on our skin (also natural and normal!).
You are supposed to sweat, and attempting to stop or interfere with this process is, to put it bluntly, not good for you. Conventional deodorant contains antibacterial ingredients that are meant to kill the natural bacteria on your skin before it gets the chance to mingle with your sweat and cause a stink. Antiperspirants deal with sweat directly by including aluminum compounds that clog up sweat glands.
But you know what’s worse than smelling a bit musty sometimes? Alzheimer’s and breast cancer, both of which have been linked to the same aluminum compounds found in antiperspirants.
You can stop shaking your head now, because I’m here to tell you that natural deodorants really do work, you just have to find the best option for your body. Just like no two people are alike, no two people have the same body chemistry, which is why some people can get away with just a dab of tea tree oil under each arm, while others would stink up an arena if they tried that route. I am one of the latter.
Before doing anything I recommend using no deodorant for at least 3 days. This will give your body time to release the toxins from the aluminum. And if that is too much time- I found a spray that worked really well to keep smell down. After three days deodorant-free, I would recommend trying Primally Pure Blue Tansy Deodorant. 2 ounces Witch Hazel, slightly warmed
10 drops therapeutic-grade tea tree essential oil
10 drops therapeutic-grade lavender or thyme essential oil
1 teaspoon organic coconut oil, melted
glass spray bottle
Preparation + Use
Mix all ingredients together in bottle and shake well. Shake before each use.
